JCGC Choir Concept & Program Application

Let's Get Started

Roc Phi Roc Step Team

** WHO IS ROC PHI ROC? **

Roc Phi Roc in short is the next generation of Boy Scouts. Collaborating with the Boy Scouts America (BSA) Venturing Crew division, the program provides positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them, to become responsible and caring adults. The primary membership requirement is young men who are in eighth grade up to 21 years of age. These young men are very diverse with both external and internal challenges that may interfere with the student’s success.

The Roc/Venturing crew partnership strives to destroy what society tends to label the “Black Man,” by tearing down those barriers of disbelief and develop young, positive, and disciplined African-American men intellectually, emotionally, culturally, spiritually, socially, as well as physically for passage into young adulthood. This youth organization was originally established in 2004 at the Warrensville Heights High School. This elite step team is affiliated with the National Step Show Alliance. This association develops collaborative partnerships with groups/agencies in the community and around the country to benefit youth. Roc Phi Roc is the primary youth outreach program of A. B.etter Way Productions, LLC.

The young men of Roc Phi Roc have been and for the most part continue to be mentored, guided, and trained by members of the black Greek letter organization, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Anthony H. Brown, an Alpha man who is also the Assistant Principal at Hope Academy Chapelside, serves the group as its program director. To effectively help each participant reach the goals and objectives established, the mentor/advisors utilize a five-step process in the quest of the “better making of a men.” Those five steps are: Spiritual Health, Personal-Emotional-Intellectual Well-being, Physical Development, Financial Independence and Career/Education Growth. The mentors’ deal with these steps through nine objectives with the primary objective is improving student’s academic performance.

 **OUR AIMS **

We will continually strive for…Renewed Expectations, Opportunities, and Commitment

That will lead to…Personal Growth, High ideals, Integrity

That will develop my…Responsibilities, Obedience, and Connections to others.

National Step Show Alliance

The National STEP Show Alliance is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded in 2005. The Alliance was created by members of the Nashville alumni chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. While founded in Nashville, the long-term goal of the organization is to develop collaborative partnerships with community groups in other cities to benefit youth. The growing prevalence of Childhood obesity is a growing concern, especially in the African-American community. The NSSA is using the popularity of step to provide a format for weekly exercise.

Mission

The aim of the National Step Show Alliance is two-fold:

1.    To use stepping as a means to reach out to middle and high school students with "step mentoring" programs; and

2.    To serve as an umbrella organization for step to preserve and archive the rich cultural history of step dance. Through the collection of information from people nationwide within the "step community" the NSSA is able to provide members data and "best practices" for step team development and step show event planning.

A. B.etter Way Productions is proud of our national affiliation with the NSSA and we hope to provide and support the Cleveland area and the Midwest region with quality programs youth step clinics.
